Proper Royals is the Ball Python family business of Adam and Kelly Shirah. We are based in Northfield, MN just outside the Minneapolis St. Paul Twin Cities. Proper Royals services the Mid-West Reptile show circuit, as well as national customers via overnight shipping with Redline Shipping.
Whether you are a pet owner curious about ball pythons or a seasoned breeder, Proper Royals has options for you to choose from. We work with a wide variety of genetic combos that create visually stunning high contrast color and pattern variations in our snakes. There truly is something for every Ball Python enthusiast here at Proper Royals.
Proper Royals began as idea in the midst of the pandemic in the Summer of 2020. Adam needed a distraction from the madness of the restaurant world and remembered how much he enjoyed the small collection of reptiles he kept in his college days. Adam began poking around the internet and was in awe of videos he saw from people like Billy Rows and the Team at Mutation Creation, Ozzy Boids, and Always Evolving Pythons. The world of ball python genetics had exploded since his college days! Then Adam discovered Morph Market… The intrigue level skyrocketed as Adam began to envision a business rather than simply a distracting hobby!
By late Summer Adam and Kelly were curating a collection of quality breeders and hatchlings for future breeding from industry icons like Garrick DeMeyer at Royal Constrictor Designs, Justin Kobylka at Kinova, and Brian Barczyk at BHB Reptiles.

Feb 1, 2024During a fateful business meeting that summer, Kelly asked Adam “How are you planning to sell all of these hatchlings you plan to make?”. The answer became the brand that is now Proper Royals. Adam set out to make Proper Royals a household name in the world of ball pythons. YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook platforms were launched. After establishing himself as a responsible and business savvy breeder, Adam began to partner with iconic industry brands like Redline Shipping, Cold Blooded Café, ShedTesting.com and Husbandry Pro as an advertising and business development partner.
Today Adam is a full time ball python breeder and vends over 25 Reptile shows each year, ships ball pythons to all of the lower 48 states, and has over 150k combined followers across all Proper Royals social media brands. The ball python world has been such an inspiring discovery, and we are so excited to help existing breeders and welcome new enthusiasts to this wonderful community.
While most of our time is focused on the ball pythons, we enjoy traveling as a family, exploring the outdoors wherever we go, and Adam still makes time to keep his passion for music alive. You can catch Adam performing live in various pubs around the Twin Cities metro area and on the summer Irish Festival circuit around the country.
